Project Description

Jojkić’s Dunavac, a six-kilometer stretch from Krnjača to Borča, is facing a serious challenge of accumulated waste. This area, located near Great War Island – a protected natural habitat known for its rich biodiversity – is an important part of the Danube River ecosystem. Our project aims to preserve and restore this valuable natural area through cleanup actions and by raising awareness of the importance of environmental protection.

Goals

  • Remove waste from Jojkić’s Dunavac.
  • Inspire citizens and decision-makers to recognize the importance of protecting natural resources.
  • Educate the local community about recycling, climate change, and sustainable environmental practices.

Activities

  • Cleanup Actions – engaging volunteers, citizens, fishermen, schools, and youth groups.
  • Education & Surveys – organizing workshops, campaigns, and surveys on ecology, recycling, and climate change.
  • Promotion – spreading the message through social media and media outlets to encourage wider participation.

Target Groups

  • Fishermen – raising awareness about sustainable fishing and resource protection.
  • Youth & Students – active involvement helps build strong ecological awareness.
  • Local Organizations – strengthening volunteerism and community cooperation.

Our Impact

This project encourages more responsible behavior toward nature and strengthens environmental awareness within the community. The project team coordinates activities, mobilizes volunteers, and conducts research to create long-lasting positive change.

The project under which this activity was carried out is supported by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), SAFE Nature and Climate 2022-2025, which, through EU funds, provides resources for such initiatives, while the cleanup itself was carried out by citizens and volunteers.
